Augusta Festival – Craft Fair, Demonstrations, Jam Sessions, and More!
The Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College is planning to hold its annual festival in the Elkins City Park on Saturday, July 24, 2021. The festival will include craft demonstrations and classes, a food truck mall, musical jams, and over 40 craft vendors showcasing the best artistry in the state. Events kick off at 10am and will continue until 5pm.
Classes include a botanical watercolors class, a paper-making class, and even a class for kids about making art from their natural surroundings. Jacob Currence and some of the Old Brick Playhouse apprentices will entertain between the classes with a series of puppet shows. “We wanted to feature the wealth of talent found in West Virginia, particularly right here in Elkins,” says Seth Young, Augusta’s Director. Donations are encouraged at the time of the classes to help with supplies and support the artists.
Music will also be a big part of the festival. Augusta will bring in master artists to lead bluegrass, classic country, and old-time jams. “We want to provide a highly interactive way to experience traditional music,” says Young. “The day will be filled with both open jams lead jams. This will be an excellent opportunity to join in with an instrument or a song or just sit back and listen to some fantastic music.”
Craft vendors will be showing their wares during the festival. The region’s best potters, jewelers, woodworkers, blacksmiths, and craftsfolk will all be in attendance. Artisans from all over the state will bring the best of West Virginia to Elkins that day.
Augusta will also host two nights of a “Block Party” in front of El Gran Sabor on Kerens Ave. These outdoor concerts will take place right on the street in a fenced-in beer garden serving Big Timber. On Friday, July 23 at 8pm, the block party will feature The Hooten Hollars, a high-energy American roots band from Columbia, Missouri. On Saturday, July 24 at 8pm, a Honk-Tonk dance will feature Augusta’s all-star classic country revue. Admission to the concerts is $10 per night.
