Learn to trust your inner self and expand the boundaries of where your singing can go. Explore the vocal styles of some of the best singers in the genre through discussion and comparison. Experiment with diction, tone and phrasing.
Instructor Bio
Doris Fields whose stage name is Lady D is also known as “W. Va’s First Lady of Soul.” She is a singer/songwriter/ actress and playwright as well as being active in other artistic talents that she vigorously pursues. She is best known for her blues vocals but has five cds to her credit that cover her original music as well as jazz, R&B, reggae and soul.
Her one-woman show, “The Lady and the Empress” combines her original script with the music of blues legend Bessie Smith. She performs extensively with her band, MI$$ION as well as making featured appearances with many artists from the blues and jazz world. She currently resides in Beckley, WV and is a West Virginia native.
