Woodworking | Pete Hobbie | All Levels | All-Day Class | Week 1 (July 6-10, 2026)
In this class we will be covering the making of treenware, which is spoons and other kitchen tools from greenwood. Greenwood is fresh cut wood. We will cover: Suitable types of wood, safe carving techniques, tool sharpening care and most importantly, carving. Due to the use of sharp tools, the minimum age for this class is 16.
Students will need to bring the following knives, which can be purchased online:
– Mora #120
– Mora #164 (Comes in left- or right-hand version)
Other tools that would be helpful to bring if you already own them:
– Hatchet
– Drawknife
– Rasp
The teacher will be supplying the greenwood, most likely Cherry or Red Maple, for this class.
There will not be a materials fee for this class.
About the Instructor
Pete Hobbie is a lifelong woodworker and maker of treenware, musical instruments, and custom furniture. With more than three decades of experience, Pete’s work ranges from traditional hand-carved utensils (treenware) to the hand-built mountain home he and his family live in. Pete builds custom acoustic instruments, specializing in guitars and banjos, as well as free-form, hand-carved custom furniture. All materials are locally sourced, and sustainably harvested or upcycled from previous projects and other sources.
