Fiddler’s Reunion 2024
A unique event, the Augusta Fiddlers’ Reunion is a favorite of all who love old-time music. Scores of West Virginia’s master fiddlers, pickers and singers gather, along with hundreds of local folks and visitors for a day of fun, packed with performances, workshops, jam sessions and a square dance in the evening.
10 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Fiddle Workshop with Tessa McCoy | Augusta Heritage Center Dance Hall (303 Davis Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241)
Learn a fiddle tune and technique from the West Virginia State fiddle champion. This workshop is aimed at intermediate players, but all levels are welcome if you are willing to follow the pace of the instructor. $20 admission, $10 for students/Americorps
11 a.m. to 12 p.m.: West Virginia Tune Workshop with Chance McCoy (open to all instruments) | Augusta Heritage Center Dance Hall (303 Davis Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241)
Bring an instrument and learn a tune from Chance McCoy, who is originally from the Eastern Panhandle and has toured the world with Old Crow Medicine Show and other bands. This workshop is aimed at intermediate players, but all levels are welcome if you are willing to follow the pace of the instructor. $20 admission, $10 for students/Americorps
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Fiddler Showcase | Elkins Town Square Rotary Amphitheater
This showcase will consist of 20-minute sets from West Virginia fiddlers. Some of the featured players will be: Mack Samples, Joe Herrmann, Jenny Allinder, Jimmy Costa, Mary Linscheid, Bobby Taylor, John Morris, Bob Smakula, Andy Fitzgibbon, Jesse Milnes, Gerry Milnes, Tessa McCoy, Chance McCoy. The final schedule of players will be announced here prior to the event. Free and open to the public.
5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Youth Old-Time Music Showcase | Elkins Town Square Rotary Amphitheater
This showcase will feature players aged 17 and younger from around the state, including players from our Augusta Strings Program. Free and open to the public.
6:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m.: Cherokee Dance, Storytelling, and Musical Extravaganza! | Randolph County Community Arts Center (2 Park Street, Elkins, WV 26241)
Experience the drama and power of the Cherokee people, with social dance, storytelling and more. It will be fun for all ages! This portion of the day is co-sponsored by the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area. More information on the AFNHA site.
7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.: Square Dance | Randolph County Community Arts Center (2 Park Street, Elkins, WV 26241)
Calling by Mack Samples; Music by Jesse Milnes & Friends. $10 admission, $5 for students/Americorps
