This class will be geared towards folk who want to get started with blacksmithing, but can be enjoyed by students with more experience as well. Students will come away with several completed small pieces and a lot of new skills.
Additional materials fee of approximately $50 will apply.
Instructor Bio
Greg Bray is a resident of Marion County. He has been an employee of Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation since 1994, when he was hired as the resident blacksmith, and is now the current Executive Director at Pricketts Fort.
· Completed the Augusta Heritage Apprentice Program in 1994, under the instruction of Bob Elliot.
· He is the owner/operator of Bray’s Knifeworks, est. 1990 to present.
· Placed 2nd at the Dixon’s Gun Fair Masters Class in 1995.
· He is a juried artisan of Tamarack, the Best of West Virginia.
· He is a juried artisan of Mountain Made.
· Won Best of Show in 1998 at Springs Folk Festival.
· The recipient of the Marion County Humanities Award in 2007.
· The recipient of the Traditions Salute Award from Fairmont State University in 2012.
Greg Bray is currently an offsite instructor for Fairmont State University Folklife Studies Program in blacksmithing, gun building and log structure preservation.
Greg has been married to his wife, Cindy, for 31 years and is the father of three children
