Jewelry | Korey Burns | All Levels | All-Day | Week 3 (July 20-25, 2025)
Students will learn the tips and tricks needed to successfully make their first piece of jewelry. Learn how to safely use the tools of the trade, and make something beautiful and amazing.
In this hands-on workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of metalsmithing. By the end of the class, students will gain practical skills in soldering, texturing, cutting, shaping, and polishing metal. They will also explore more advanced techniques such as creating bezel settings and inlaying stones. Through guided instruction and projects, students will develop the confidence and craftsmanship needed to work with metal and create beautiful, custom jewelry!
Day 1:
Morning – Introductions! Students will learn how to measure metal, ring sizes, and solder metal together to form two stackable rings.
Afternoon – Bezel Settings! Students will be learning how to measure a 8mm stone and create a perfect fit bezel. We will use a precut circle to design a small pendant with.
Day 2:
Morning – Wire Designs! Students will learn how to trace a drawing to create earrings or pendant using wire.
Afternoon – Work Time
Day 3:
Morning – Inlay! Students will construct a banned ring. Leaving a space for crushed stones to be placed in-between.

Day 4:
Morning – More Stone Setting! Students will learn how to construct a ring with a bezel setting or tube setting.
Afternoon – Work Time
Day 5 –
Worktime! Students can spend the day creating their own ideas.
Tool Kit:
2×2” 22g Silver sheet metal
4” Fine silver bezel wire
3 stones of your choice from my collection.
5” sterling silver 14g wire for stackable ring
5” sterling silver 12g wire for ring shank
10mm sterling silver disk for pendant
2” 24g strip of sterling silver for inlay ring
4” rectangle wire of sterling silver for inlay ring
6” sterling silver 16g wire for wire design earrings
6” sterling silver 14g wire for wire design earrings
The kit will allow you to create – 2 stackable rings, 1 inlay ring, 2 jewelry designs with stones, 1 pair of wire earrings, and 1 design of your choice.
There will be a $100 materials fee added to your total when you register for this class. Students should be at least 15 to register for this class. Only 10 slots available!
About the Instructor
Korey E, Burns is currently a full-time Creative Arts Professor at Davis and Elkins Collage. At D&E she is the instructor for the digital media courses and advises students who are enrolled in the Digital Design Minor at the collage.
Korey graduated with a masters in fine arts, concentrating in jewelry and metalsmithing techniques at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. She received her bachelors of fine arts from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA where she contrasted in sculptural designs. Born and raised in Grayson, Louisiana she has always felt a strong connection to the community and culture of Louisiana. Which lead to further interests in human interaction and traditions in other countries. In 2016, Korey participated in a study abroad program that took place in Salvador, Brazil. Then another in 2017 where she traveled to Florence, Italy. She was able to discover different connections that related back to the history of Louisiana. After graduation, Korey was selected by the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin Statute University as 2018’s recipient of the Gary Parker Art Scholarship which allowed her to move to NYC and accept a position as a assistant jewelry designer for Michael Michaud. After learning further skills about jewelry production, marketing, and craftsmanship she decided it was time to follow her passion of teaching.
