Blast from to past sounds of ragtime guitar. Dig into the techniques and sounds of players like Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis, John Jackson and Jelly Roll Morton. This class will be full of active listening of classic ragtime tunes and arranging for the guitar. Techniques will include double thumbing, syncopation with thumb, classic ragtime melodic lines, common ragtime keys (i.e. key of C) typical ragtime progressions/chord shapes, improvisation over a ragtime form, and groove. If you’re looking to challenge your thumb’s independence with alternating bass, this is the class for you.

About the Instructor
Arthur Terembula is a touring artist and passionate student of the country blues and ragtime guitar. A translator of the sounds of the 1920’s & 1930’s blues. He reimagines the music from those times, rewriting and interpreting the songs of Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, Elizabeth Cotten, Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis, and other various country blues figures. You can find Arthur with his ear close to a speaker and guitar in hand, humming and whittling away at the fretboard. Arthur Terembula is also an active board-certified Music Therapist, MT-BC that specializes in providing care in pediatric palliative care and hospice.
