Accordion & Fiddle | Jane Vidrine & Friends | Advanced | Period 3 | Week 1 (July 7-12, 2024)
Jane Vidrine will dive deep with a different guest each day (including Jimmy Breaux, Jesse Lege and others). Students will hear stories about the old players who influenced these guests and how they bring those influences into their own playing. This workshop will be geared towards advanced fiddle and accordion players but would also be great for anybody wanting to learn master musicians’ back stories.
About the Instructor
Jane Vidrine is a musician and music educator from Lafayette, Louisiana. She recently published Lâche Pas: A Louisiana French Music Method, for Vermilion Parish schools. She’s a founding member of the Grammy-nominated Magnolia Sisters Cajun Band. She also plays in the family Cajun band with her husband, John Vidrine and son, Jo. And Jane stays musically in touch with her Missouri old-time music roots.
“Teaching adults who are interested in delving deep into the traditional music that I love is a true privilege that brings me so much joy.” Jane has taught guitar, fiddle, and vocals several times for Cajun & Creole Week at the Augusta Heritage Center. This year, she will teach beginning Louisiana French fiddle and a class with Augusta artists called Old Souls and Spirits. As always, she will immerse her students in the songs’ background, lyrics, and meaning.
