Soulful Women Singers with Annalee Koehn

Singing | Annalee Koehn | All Levels | Period 3 | Week 2 (July 14-19, 2024)

Have you ever been caught by the twist of a phrase, a sincere delivery, or a heart-melting harmony? We’ll explore and go deep on some great Roots, Blues and Country Music by women singers we love, spanning several decades. So many great possibilities including Jean Shepard, Connie Francis, Linda Ronstadt, Patty Loveless, Mavis Staples, Julie Miller, Irma Thomas, Emmylou Harris, Kasey Chambers, Tracy Chapman, Linda Thompson, Iris Dement, and more!

We’ll learn several new songs each day, sing in small groups, and work on vocal approach and arrangements. Topics will include the essentials: finding your key, harmonies, phrasing, dynamics, and developing arrangements to express the feeling of the song. We will pair up with classmates to try out these good ideas in real time, and you’ll leave with insights into the artists’ work, and some great tunes to add to your songbook. All genders are welcome as students in this class!
